Only 100 pairs of the Adidas Originals Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low will be auctioned via NFT passes, redeemable for the actual sneakers.
Adidas Originals and BAPE have unveiled a limited-edition sneaker collaboration for the Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low, which will be auctioned off and paired with a “digital twin” NFT version of the sneakers potentially wearable in the metaverse.
Powered by the Adidas /// Studio (Three Stripes Studio), the auction will take place on the Adidas Collect platform. While Adidas has previously ventured into several NFT initiatives, this marks the brand’s first time using an auction format for an NFT-driven release. Only 100 Ethereum NFTs will be made available, each redeemable for one of the 100 corresponding pairs of sneakers.
The sneakers showcase BAPE’s iconic imagery through a shooting star motif on the upper side and the “A Bathing Ape” logo embossed in silver foil. The pristine white color, contrasting with previous camouflage iterations, ties into a narrative hook around a “spotless laundromat, located in the heart of a mysterious desert.”
Each pair of sneakers comes equipped with an NFC chip, placed on the left tongue, granting the owner access to their NFT-based authenticity certificate when scanned with a smartphone.
Upon redeeming the NFT access pass for the physical shoes, owners will also receive an “interoperable” Ethereum “digital twin” NFT, hinting at wearability within Adidas’ ALTS avatar project in the metaverse. Adidas previously hinted that holders of their 19,500 tokens might be able to swap their current incarnations for functional avatars.
Auction Details
The Adidas Originals x BAPE “Fresh Forum” NFT access pass auction kicks off on August 22 and runs for 72 hours until August 25. Holders of Adidas’ 2,298 ALT[er] Ego “Soles”, specific sneaker features that form one of the eight available ALTS NFT traits, along with members of the BAPE community: (B)APETAVERSE, will get an additional 10% bidding premium, giving them an edge as bidders. Bids can be placed according to shoe size, and while only one active bid can be held at a time, prospective buyers can place as many bids as they wish. According to Adidas, bids start at 0.3 ETH (roughly $550 at current rates) with no maximum cap.
Winners of the Adidas Originals x BAPE NFT auction can burn their tokens to redeem the physical sneakers and their digital twin starting September 26 via Adidas Collect, with shipping set to commence in October.
This release marks the third installment of a collaboration celebrating BAPE’s 30th anniversary. Earlier versions released earlier this year featured co-branded versions of the Forum Low with a camouflage motif.
