Phantom Wallet Potential Airdrop Rumour Gains Online Attention

1 Mins read

Rumours of a potential airdrop involving popular Solana-based cryptocurrency wallet Phantom Wallet have been circulating on social media, causing a wave of speculation within the crypto community.

Posts from influential users suggest that participating in certain activities within the wallet, such as following others with their customized usernames, might result in token rewards. However, no official confirmation or announcement has been made by Phantom Wallet.

These unverified claims have led to heightened activity among users, many of whom are rushing to claim usernames and engage in follow-back campaigns.

What is a Phantom username?

A Phantom username is a unique, user-friendly identity for your Phantom Wallet, designed to simplify interactions within the wallet ecosystem.

Unlike the long, complex wallet addresses traditionally used in cryptocurrency transactions, Phantom usernames allow users to create custom, memorable identities that are easier to use and share.

With a Phantom username, users can benefit from features such as an integrated address book, which allows them to add friends as contacts by name instead of complex wallet addresses. This feature streamlines the process of sending and receiving cryptocurrency. Additionally, any accounts linked to a username are synced across all devices, ensuring a seamless experience for users.

Claiming a username is entirely optional, and users who prefer to use standard wallet addresses can continue to do so.

Phantom Airdrop Rumors

The speculation stems from social media posts by notable members of the cryptocurrency and NFT communities. Josh Ong, cofounder of Bored Room Ventures, addressed the rumors in a post saying, “Not sure about the airdrop rumors, but if you follow in the app and drop your @ in the comments here, I’ll go through and follow back in batches.”

Other posts from the community also added to the speculation, suggesting that users could earn tokens through mutual-following activities. These posts claimed rewards of up to 1,000 tokens for following others and 500 tokens for gaining followers.

Whilst the posts have garnered significant attention, no evidence has been provided to substantiate the claims. Phantom Wallet has yet to issue a statement, leaving the validity of these rumours unclear.
