Cyberpunk-themed game ecosystem Pixelverse is launching a tactical deck-building game ‘MemeBattle’ to incorporate popular cryptocurrency memes as playable characters.
The game will debut in January, featuring a roster of meme mascots from multiple blockchain projects. In the game, players will compete in strategic battles by assembling squads of characters inspired by well-known internet and crypto culture.
The game will launch on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 platform, chosen for its scalability, low transaction costs and built-in wallet integration to create a more accessible experience for players.
What is MemeBattle?
MemeBattle revolves around creating squads of characters inspired by cryptocurrency memes and battling opponents to earn rewards.
The game’s initial lineup includes mascots from Base projects such as Brett, Toshi, Dog in Me, Keyboard Cat, and Mochi. Other blockchain-based characters, including Pudgy Penguins, Turbo, and Mew, will also be featured.
Whilst the game is categorized as a deck-builder, the characters will not be represented as traditional cards. Pixelverse has not disclosed the exact gameplay format but stated that it will move away from conventional card mechanics.
A Growing Blockchain Portfolio
Pixelverse gained recognition earlier this year with PixelTap, a Telegram mini-game that attracted a wide audience. MemeBattle is the next step in its development pipeline, designed to expand the company’s presence in blockchain-based gaming.
The project has received funding from Gate.io’s $50 million Meme Fund, which supports initiatives focused on meme and community-driven content in the crypto space. Additionally, investments from Delphi Ventures and Mechanism Capital have helped fund its development.
Launching with 10 characters, MemeBattle aims to combine elements of internet culture with tactical gameplay. Whilst more details about the game will likely be released closer to its debut, it signals continued experimentation in the intersection of crypto, gaming, and cultural trends.
