30 Sep Bitfinex Among First to List EIGEN, Native Token of EigenLayer
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, British Virgin Islands – 30th September 2024 – Bitfinex (https://www.bitfinex.com), a leading digital asset trading platform, announced today that it would be among the first exchanges to list EIGEN, the native token of EigenLayer, a decentralised restaking protocol designed to enhance security and innovation within blockchain networks.
EigenLayer’s platform continues to grow rapidly, raising in February 2024, an additional $170 million in venture funding, and now has a total value locked surpassing $20 billion. By expanding Ethereum’s existing security infrastructure, EigenLayer allows developers to create new services that leverage the protection of Ethereum’s staked assets. This innovation provides new services with immediate economic security, while stakers benefit by earning additional rewards through restaking their assets across multiple platforms.
The EIGEN token is designed to empower the EigenLayer ecosystem, offering a complementary role to ETH restaking. It introduces a mechanism to address “intersubjective” faults—behaviours that are not identifiable on-chain but still warrant penalties. This mechanism allows EIGEN to handle these faults without forking the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring the security and integrity of the network.
EIGEN also enhances the capacity of what can be developed on EigenLayer, enabling a wide range of applications such as transaction ordering, databases, storage services, oracles, and artificial intelligence processors. At the same time, investors benefit by earning additional rewards via restacking their assets across multiple platforms, driving security and innovation in the ecosystem.

Deposits for EIGEN are expected to be opened at 4:00 AM UTC on 01 October, 2024, subject to network conditions. Trading is planned to commence at approximately 5:00 AM UTC on 1 October 2024, contingent upon liquidity requirements being met. EIGEN will be tradable against US Dollars (EIGEN/USD) and Tether tokens (EIGEN/USDt).
